Welcome to VMSB244.com. This site is dedicated to the men who were a part of the United States Marine Corps Dive Bomber Squadron VMSB-244 during World War II. Also known as the Bombing Banshees, this squadron was a part of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and was active from March 1, 1942 ~ June 10, 1946. Shortly after being commissioned, it was made a part of Marine Aircraft Group 24 and was based out of Santa Barbara, California. VMSB-244 actively fought in both the Bougainville campaign (1943 – 1945) and also the Philippines campaign (1944 – 1945).
